The Winding Road of a Writer

When I look back at my own journey, I see less of a straight line and more of a beautiful, winding trail. From my early days of writing short stories and poetry in college to the quiet satisfaction of holding my first published title, every step has been a lesson. I have moved from the whimsical world of children's literature to the intricate, research-heavy landscapes of historical fiction, and each transition has taught me something vital about the craft.

What has surprised me most is that the learning never ends. Each manuscript has challenged me in different ways, asking me to become a stronger storyteller than I was before. Over the last five years, working as a published author, I've gained a much deeper appreciation for the many layers involved in bringing a book to life. Writing the story is only the beginning. There is grammar to refine, structure to strengthen, scenes to reshape, and countless editing decisions that slowly transform a manuscript into a finished work. Along the way, I've discovered an abundance of resources,from craft books and critique groups, to editing tools and fellow writers, each one helping me grow in ways I never expected.

This month, that journey has brought me back to where it all began. I am submitting three poems to the Turning Point anthology through the Space Coast Writers Guild. Returning to poetry feels like coming full circle, reminding me that every form of writing has something to teach us. These poems are also featured here on my website in the Poetry section.

Looking back, I can see that every path I've explored has shaped the writer I am today. None of it has been wasted.

I hope you'll continue walking this road with me. Along the way, I'll share what I'm learning, the resources I've found helpful, and the lessons that continue to shape both my writing and my life. After all, I don't believe the journey of a writer is ever truly finished. It's simply the beginning of the next chapter.
